About Us

Shahid Beheshti University (SBU) (The ex- National University of Iran) is one of the most prestigious universities in Iran. Established in 1959, SBU combines the tradition of a classical university with the dynamic character of a modern and interdisciplinary scientific enterprise. SBU is situated at the foothills of the Alborz Mountains, with a large beautiful space and a rare landscape overlooking the big city of Tehran. SBU has attracted the attention of many of the top students in Iran.

Since 1990, the university has placed more emphasis on postgraduate, in particular PhD, and research programs, while still aiming to enhance the quality of its well-established undergraduate courses. Students at the university are inspired by an outstanding and rewarding academic environment not only in Iran but in the region. The university and the members of the academia are at the forefront of world research in many fields, and the teaching is informed by the very latest developments in each discipline.

Laser and Plasma Research Institute (LAPRI) of SBU was established in 1993 The main goal of this research institute is to spread laser science, optics, photonics and plasma by training experts and carrying out fundamental researches in order to extend the frontiers of science and applied researches in industry and sciences. Its research groups are applications of laser, technology of laser, condensed matter, biophotonics, and plasma engineering.

The Quantum Photonics Research Technology Center of SBU at the LAPRI focused on the applications of quantum photonics and quantum optics, as well as the fundamental aspects of the quantum world. From both an educational and research perspective, we address the engineering challenges in quantum-enabled systems and applications. The aim is to bring quantum technologies out of the research labs into the field, to enable them to tackle relevant societal challenges. The main application domains are Photonic quantum devices, Integrated quantum photonics, Quantum sensors & quantum measurements, Quantum information & quantum computations, Atom optics, Atom interferometry, Quantum optomechanics, Laser cooling and ultracold atoms, Quantum fiber-optic sensor and Biosensors, Quantum Biology,  and Quantum non-linear optics.
